Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge: WEEK THREE

This week looks and feels like we didn’t get much done. Which is crazy because it took the entire week to get this done. It could be that it’s just me and everyone else can see the progress. So i hope that’s the case! This week was all about preparation for.....TILE!!

We are SOOOO close to the tiling stage. And I’m sooo ready. Because that is when you see your design REALLY start to come together.

We started this week with the installation of our pocket doors. Talk about the best thing ever! We now have WORKING DOORS THAT DONT BANG INTO EACH OTHER. It also helped open the space a TON. Installing the doors was so easy. You place the roller tracks on the track, screw the bracket into the door, and place them into each other and secure it! It’s seriously the easiest process. Well worth the time and money!

Next was drywall. We put drywall on the areas/walls that WONT have tile. Because my design includes a lot of tile we will be using more cement boards rather then drywall. We wanted it to be extremely protected just in case of water leakage or any reason water would get in spaces besides the tub (like when my boys decide to sumo dive into the tub).

To put the drywall up, we measured the area it was going to go, cut out the correct shape, and then to put it on the wall we used an impact drill with drywall nails and sunk them in! Cutting drywall is fairly easy! The way we use and have found is best, is using a drywall T square, then scoring it with a utility knife, and then from there you put pressure on the scored line and it breaks at the line! Super simple.

We also had to adjust plumbing and get it ready for the sink/vanity. We adjusted it and moved it more toward the center. My father in law works for a cabinet company and is custom building our vanity. For my design for that all the plumbing has to fit in a 6 inch space directly in the middle of the vanity. So we had to just adjust that accordingly. We also got the plumbing for the shower/tub ready and in place so that when we go to add the cement boards, we are able to have the correct holes ready for the placements of the showerhead and tub faucet.

Speaking of the tub, WE GOT THAT INSTALLED! Installing a tub is all about making sure your drain/pee trap is in the correct place, and the overflow plumbing is in the right place. If they are, you basically just place the tub in its place and screw on the drain and the overflow and it’s ready to go!

We partnered with Southwest Plumbing supply here in Springville UT, and they donated the tub we are using! They were freaking amazing to work with and their variety of product was amazing. They have a showroom here in Springville for anyone interested, and they help walk you through your design process/what you’re looking for! We picked the most gorgeous tub. I wanted a very simple look. Clean, shiny, flat front. No indents or bevels, and they had the perfect tub! Seriously, if you are looking for anything from bathroom to kitchen related (light fixtures, tubs, sinks, faucets, etc...), Southwest Plumbing Supply has awesome prices and awesome products! I had a hard time finding a tub I liked the look of that wasn't a free standing tub. So when I walked through their showroom and found this I fell in love!

To get the tub into the right place it’s ALLLLL about measuring. We got the tub out of the box so it’s better/easier to measure. For the drain, you need the exact measurements from the sidewall to the center of the drain, and also the exact measurements from the front wall to the center of the drain. From there you are able to extend or take away piping in order to get it in the correct place. My advice: MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE. You can never double check too many times. You’d rather be safe rather then sorry(;

Now that that is all complete, we are so close to being ready for tile! I’m soooo excited for this next week. Ready to get to the final stages and see the end! We just have to get the cement boards up, and then we can start tiling!

Shifting gears a bit. Along with Jeffrey Court, Homes.com is also sponsoring this contest! If I’m being honest I didn’t know a lot about homes.com. So I decided to learn a bit more about them!
They have amazing tools for home owners, rentals, or anyone interested in flipping houses, they are not only used for finding homes and figuring out your homes value, but they also have a blog FULL of amazing posts and information. One of the big things I’ve learned from them and their site was how this renovation was going to affect our house. Our bathroom before was ugly, dated, moldy, and just so unappealing. Renovating this bathroom with the high quality products that we are using is going to attract buyers and they are going to WANT our bathroom. It’s a space in the house that EVERYONE uses. Including guests. Having a nice beautiful bathroom with high quality products was a MUST. This will now help us attract buyers! Which is a HUGE advantage when we go to sell. We chose to use high quality products for this reason. It’s not our forever home, but it will help us sell for a higher price as well as sell quicker. The amount of information/useful tips and posts on homes.com is insane and helped me so much during this renovation. Now that I’ve found homes.com and all it has to offer, it’ll be such a useful tool for future renovations/house searches!

Can’t wait for this next week and being able to start tiling. WE ARE HALFWAY THERE PEOPLE!!

Ps:
We got the faucet hooked up to our tub so I could take a bath!!!! I’ve never been so happy!!! It was the best bath and I was finally able to take my time in my own house and enjoy getting clean.
